Licensed Utah interior designers are required to complete 20 hours of Continuing Education (CE) every 2 years.
CE Requirement: 20 hours of Continuing Education, of which at least 10 hours must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW).
Renewal Date: March 31 of odd-numbered years.
CE Cycle: Biennial - licensees are required to earn the continuing education in the 2 years immediately preceding the certificate expiration date (e.g. continuing education earned between April 1,2021 and March 31, 2023 count towards the March 31, 2023 renewal).
Acceptable Coursework: The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) does NOT pre-approve courses. Courses approved by IDCEC under the HSW or General designations are accepted. It is up to the licensee to determine whether the activity meets the Board’s requirements and final discretion is up to the Board.
Reporting of Credits:Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Utah DOPL. Licensees are required to attest to the completion of CE requirements as a condition of renewal. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
Tracking of Credits: Licensees are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least4years following the license renewal for which credits were claimed.
Audit:All interior designers licensed in Utah are subject to audit by the Board and upon written request will need to provide documentation to support the credits claimed at renewal.
