Tennessee Interior Design Continuing Education Requirements

Tennessee State Flag Continuing EducationRegistered Tennessee interior designers, architects, engineers, and landscape architects are required to complete 24 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.

  • CE Requirement:  24 PDHs (Professional Development Hours), of which at least 13 must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) and/or technical competency.
  • Renewal Date: Date of licensure (i.e. every 2 years after original date of registration).
  • CE Cycle: Biennial - PDHs must be earned within the 2 year period based on preceding the renewal date (e.g. if the original licensure date is February 4, 2020, the renewal date is February 4, 2022, etc.).
  • Acceptable Coursework: The Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners does not pre-approve courses or providers. AIA, ASLA, IDCEC-approved courses are generally acceptable but it is the registrant's responsibility to use their professional judgment to determine if an activity meets the Board's criteria as summarized in this post and - most importantly - as detailed on Board's website.
  • Reporting of Credits:  Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Tennessee Board, neither can registrants. Registered interior designers are required to attest to the completion of CE requirements as a condition of renewal. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
  • Tracking of Credits: Registrants are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 4 years.
  • Audit:  All interior designers registered in Tennessee are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the PDHs claimed at renewal.
