Minnesota Interior Design Continuing Education Requirements

The Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) requires Minnesota-licensed architects and interior designers to complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years.
- CE Requirement: 24 HSW (Health, Safety, and Welfare) Professional Development Hours (PDHs) every two years. A minimum of 2 of the 24 HSW PDHS must be dedicated to Professional Ethics.
- CE Reporting Cycle: Two-year period running from July 1 of even-numbered years through June 30 of the following even-numbered year (e.g. July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2018).
- Acceptable Coursework: The Minnesota Board does not pre-approve courses and activities, however to the best of our knowledge, courses approved by the AIA and/or IDCEC under the HSW designation meet the continuing education requirements outlined outlined in MN Statute 326.107. Final discretion is up to the Board.
- Reporting of Credits: Providers CANNOT report continuing education credits earned to the Minnesota Board of AELSLAGID, neither can licensees or certificate holders (except in case of audit). Licensees and certificate holders attest to having met the required continuing education requirements on the license renewal form.
- Tracking of Credits: Licensees and certificate holders are responsible for keeping record of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 4 years after the end of the licensure/certification period for which the hours apply.
- Audit: A random sample of licensees and certificate holders will be audited to verify compliance with continuing education requirements. If audited (or if otherwise requested by the Board), registrants will be asked to provide supporting documentation of continuing education activities.
- Carry-over Credits: No more than 12 HSW PDHs may be carried over from one biennium to the next. No Professional Ethics hours may be used toward carry-over.
