Maryland Interior Design Continuing Education Requirements

Maryland State Flag Continuing EducationLicensed Maryland Interior Designers are required to complete 10 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.

  • CE Requirement:  10 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), of which 1 Sustainable Design credit approved by the U.S. Green Building Council and 9 Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) credits approved by IDCEC.
  • Renewal Date:  Based on date-of-licensure, every 2-years.
  • CE Cycle:  Biennial - Licensees are required to earn all CEUs in the 2 years immediately preceding the renewal date. (For example, if you received your license on September 23, 2020, your renewal date would be September 23, 2022 and every 2 years thereafter.)
  • Acceptable Coursework:  The Maryland Board of Certified Interior Design accepts courses approved by:
    1. The Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) under the designation of Health, Safety & Welfare for the HSW portion of the required credits. 
    2.  The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the required sustainable design credit. 
  • Reporting of Credits:  Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Maryland Board. Licensees are required to certify that they are in compliance with the Board’s CE requirements on the biennial renewal application. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
  • Tracking of Credits:  Registrants are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 2 years following the registration renewal for which credits were claimed. 
  • Audit: All interior designers licensed in Maryland are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the credits claimed at renewal.
  • Carry-over Credits:  Not permitted.
