Hawaii State Flag Continuing Education

Hawaii architects are required to complete 16 hours of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every 2 years

  • CE Requirement:  16 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) every 2 years, all of which must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) subjects.
  • Renewal Date:  April 30 of even-numbered years.
  • CE Reporting Cycle:  Biennial - Credits must be earned between May 1 of the renewal year and April 30 of the next renewal year (i.e. May 1, 2020 - April 30, 2022).
  • Acceptable Coursework: The Hawaii Board of Professional Engineers, Architects, Surveyors, and Landscape Architects does not pre-approve courses or providers. Courses approved by the AIA under the HSW designation are generally accepted. However, it is the licensee’s responsibility to use their professional judgment to determine if an activity meets the criteria of the Board.
  • Reporting of CreditsProviders cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Hawaii Board. Licensees are required to attest that they are in compliance with the Board’s CE requirements on the biennial renewal application. Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
  • Tracking of Credits: Licensed architects are responsible for maintaining proof of successful completion of continuing education activities for at least 4 years from the date of completion.
  • Audit:  All architects licensed in Hawaii are subject to audit by the Board and upon request will need to provide documentation to support the CEUs claimed at renewal.
  • Are you licensed in another state? If so, check out the Architecture Continuing Education Requirements.
