Washington DC Interior Design Continuing Education Requirements

DC FlagThe District of Columbia (DC) Board of Architecture and Interior Design requires Washington DC interior designers to complete 10 hours of Continuing Education every 2 years.

  • CE Requirement:  10 Contact Hours,  all of which must qualify as Health, Safety & Welfare (HSW) credits.
  • Renewal Deadline:  October 31 of even-numbered years.
  • CE Cycle:  Biennial - Credits must be earned in the 2-year period immediately preceding the renewal date. (e.g. credits earned between November 1, 2020 and October 31, 2022 count towards the renew October 31, 2022 renewal date).
  • Acceptable Coursework:  The District of Columbia Board of Architecture & Interior Design does not pre-approve courses. Courses approved by IDCEC are under the HSW designation are accepted. It is the licensee's responsibility to use their professional judgement to determine if an activity meets the Board's criteria. Final discretion is up to the Board.
  • Reporting of Credits:  Providers cannot report continuing education credits earned to the Board. Licensees must be prepared to submit documentation (e.g. a transcript or certificates from the course providers). Design Arts Seminars reports credits electronically whenever possible.
  • Audit:  All interior designers licensed in Washington DC are subject to audit by the Board and upon written request will need to provide documentation to support the credits claimed at renewal.
  • Carry-over of credits: Not permitted
